interesting details from the set

Writing The Story

The original idea was to write a conversation between two people in a cabin. I came across the short story “The Lady, or the Tiger” by Frank Stockton. It was published in 1882 and has been published in countless anthologies. Despite that, I’d never heard of it. So it became the story that Vincent would tell. But I gave it a different frame of reference due to the time and circumstances.

Finding The Location

When I began writing, I was thinking of the kitchen of my neighbors house, so I wrote to that. Fortunately, they were willing to let us shoot there. The home was built in the 19th century, but it feels much older. The owner is a world-renowned duck decoy carver (yes that’s a thing where I live) and the house feels like a period museum.

Building The Team

Making this film started with two people, my producer Claudio Kuhn, and a cinematographer I’d worked with on a previous, award-winning fashion film, Jay Feather. Jay brought on his producing partner, and they brought their casting agent, Sherry Thomas. Once we had this team in place, we were able to cast the amazing Reed Birney, a Tony-Award winning actor for the lead. The rest of the crew were people we work with regularly. They all pitched it.
